Retail lenders have struggled for years with ways to minimize losses in the disposal of reposseded vehicles. In their effort to reduce auto deficiencies, lenders have experimented with direct retail sales, consignments, selling to wholesalers and auto auctions.

Of these, remarketing through auto auctions has proven to be the most efficient method.
For this reason, GMAC, Ford Motor Credit and many others now exclusively use auctions to liquidate their inventory. But there is a downside.

Taking a handful of cars to auction without proper representation does not produce the best results. This is particularly true with older and more marginal vehicles.

For one, they are offered late in the day - after the big volume lending institutions sell their units - and the new car dealers have gone home. According to the General
Services Administration, New Car dealers consistently pay more than the public will.

Moreover, cars are often not properly reconditioned - if at all - to improve their
saleability and reduce net loss.

Simply put, trying to sell a car at an auction without knowledgeable
representation is like going to court without an attorney!
